
Prof. Dr. Erkan Çakır was born in Bilecik in 1974. He graduated from Istanbul University Istanbul Faculty of Medicine in 1997. He completed his specialization in Child Health and Diseases at Göztepe EAH in 2002, and then his subspecialty in Pediatric Chest Diseases at Marmara University Faculty of Medicine in 2007. He worked as a pediatric pulmonologist at Süreyyapaşa Chest Diseases Training and Research Hospital between 2007 and 2010., He obtained the title of associate professor in 2011 and professor in 2016, respectively in Bezmialem Vakıf University Faculty of Medicine, Department of Child Health and Diseases, Department of Pediatric Chest Diseases. He continues his education, research and patient service at Bezmialem Vakıf University Faculty of Medicine, Department of Child Health and Diseases and Pediatric Chest Diseases. He took part in many educational and administrative positions, including Head of the Department of Child Health and Diseases (2020-2023), Chief Education Coordinator of the Faculty of Medicine (2019-2023) and Head of the Medical Education Accreditation Board of the Faculty of Medicine (2018-2023). He has 103 articles published in journals abroad (23 first names), 66 international papers (15 first names), 4 national book editorships, 42 national book chapters (23 first names), 22 publications in national peer-reviewed journals (9 first names), has 130 national papers. In addition to being the director of 6 medical specialty theses, he took part in many scientific awards and projects. He is currently involved in the management of the Turkish Pediatric Institution, Child Health and Diseases Medical Specialization Qualification Board, Pediatric Chest Diseases Association, Istanbul Tuberculosis Association and the National Cystic Fibrosis Registry System, and is a member of the Tuberculosis Scientific Board of the Ministry of Health and a member of the Cystic Fibrosis scientific board of the Ministry of Health. He is married and has two children.
