Dr. Ali Tuğrul Akin, Lisans eğitimini 2012 yılında Erciyes Üniversitesi, Fen Fakültesi, Biyoloji Bölümü’nde tamamlamıştır. Aynı üniversitenin Fen Bilimleri Enstitüsü’nde yüksek lisansını tamamlamasının ardından, 2021 yılında ‘Adriamycin ile indüklenen testis hasarında pluripotensinin histolojik ve moleküler bakımdan incelenmesi’ başlıklı doktora tezi ile doktora derecesini almıştır. Doktora sonrası araştırmalarını Erciyes Üniversitesi İlaç Uygulama ve Araştırma Merkezi bünyesinde kurmuş olduğu laboratuvar ve araştırma ekibi ile yürütmüştür. Araştırma alanı çeşitli deneysel nörodejeneratif ve sistemik hastalık modellerinde bitkisel kaynaklı ilaç etken maddelerinin tedavi edici etkilerinin araştırılmasını kapsamaktadır.
